In 2015, Light Moves once again presented a festival of opportunities which, through installations and the collective experience of film, offers new and thought-provoking ways of engaging with performance and movement on screen.
The 2nd edition of Light Moves Festival took place in Limerick from 19-22 November 2015. Discover a snapshot of the programme below.
Feature Films - Including screenings of The Turin Horse directed by Béla Tarr and Ágnes Hranitzky (Hungary, 2010) and Anna Karenina directed by Joe Wright (UK, 2012).
Installations - CARRIAGEWORKS / 24 FRAMES PER SECOND. 24 Frames Per Second is a ground-breaking project that has been developed by Sydney based contemporary multi-arts centre Carriageworks. Three years in development, Carriageworks has commissioned choreographers, visual artists, performance-makers and filmmakers to make 24 major new screenbased works. Occupying the nexus between film, dance and the visual arts, the exhibition has been conceived in response to a shift towards interdisciplinary and collaborative experimentation in contemporary artistic practice.
Film Screeings - A series of 10 short film programmes consisting of films from the Light Moves Open Call 2015.
Invited Works - Including Into the Mire and Track by Nigel Rolf, and Space In and Imperceptible by Boris Van Deer Avoort.
Installations - The 2015 installation programme included Chaplet of Roses by Colin Gee and Angie Smalis, and iDuet by Steve Woods and John Scott.
Light Moves Symposium: Peeling Away The Layers - Presented in partnership with DMarc at The University of Limerick and featuring Mary Nunan, Marisa Zanotti, Siobhan Davies and Nigel Rolfe, with a keynote speech by Claudia Kappenberg.
Light Moves Screendance LAB - Light Moves Screendance Laboratory is a forum for investigation in which interlacing strands of dance filmmaking are explored, unlocked and re-imagined.
These works explore and expand on the notion of choreography, enabling the body to take centre stage whilst advocating screendance as a way of both making film and thinking about film and dance.
