Dancing Screens
At Firkin Crane, Cork
Participate in a Zoom workshop with dance artist Mary Wycherley as she shares insights from her wide-ranging experiences of making dance for screen in her live performance and cinematic works. Drawing from her interdisciplinary practice which bridges dance, film and visual arts this workshop focuses on essential considerations for making dance works for and with screen. It includes:
- Visual languages for screen or stage
- Improvised and choreographed performance for the screen
- Embracing the potential of different presentation contexts (esp. in the current Covid-19 context)
- Considering the value of connecting or disconnecting live dance to and from screen (esp. in the current Covid-19 context)
This workshop is an opportunity to hear from a leading figure in Screendance and to take the opportunity to reflect on ideas you may currently have germinating for presentation on screen. The workshop format invites discussion relevant to the participating group - so come to the Zoom with your questions, ideas or general curiosity! It is suitable for anyone working in dance or moving image and with an interest in the crossovers between these art forms.
